The federal equal employment cops (EEOC) just ruled that a transgendered person is protected by the federal civil rights act at work.
Because if you fire someone because you thought you were hiring a man and the man turned out to be transitioning to be a woman and you fire her, it’s because of sex, right? Because she had different hormones or sex organs than you thought when you hired her.
So, how is this different from hiring someone because you thought they had the common male sexual desire for women and then firing them when you found out they had different sexual desires than most men do? You wouldn’t fire a woman for desiring men, why can you fire men for desiring men? it sure sounds the same to me.
President Obama just said he’s doing nothing for the gay community before the election; the antigay discrimination bill, ENDA, has been languishing for years. I think it’s time to start some litigation. They never passed the Equal Rights Amendment but women got most of what they needed by relitigating the meaning of the Fourteenth Amendment to include sex into the language of “equal protection of the laws.” Lambda? ACLU?
